What a fantastic location, so peaceful and unspoiled. The view out of the front windows was stunning, overlooking the Loch, and other than the beautiful birdsong, it was completely silent, sitting on the patio. We were visited every evening or early hours of the morning by a young red deer stag and even had the privilege of watching a golden eagle fly between the house and the rocks behind, beneath the ridge of the rocks, which was amazing. It was only a short drive to the gorgeous Bosta Beach (walkable, but I was awaiting spinal surgery at the time). Although we were on the North of the island it didn't take long to get back onto the main island of Lewis, and we even managed a day on Harris.
The house itself was immaculate, and was spacious, comfortable and had everything we needed. We even had a lovely welcome pack with delicious local produce.
We will certainly book again next time we visit Lewis and wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

"The most stunning holiday home on Lewis"
We have just returned from the most amazing week at Loch View, Bernera. It is definitely the most luxurious, immaculate and well equipped holiday house we have ever stayed in and in such a stunning location - you just can't keep your eyes from the amazing view!
My children loved bosta beach which is a 10 minute cycle from the house and is beautiful. We visited Harris and spent most days in wetsuits at the beach, it was heaven and such a beautiful island. Thank you Sally for allowing us to stay at your cherished holiday home, it is so beautiful and we had the best holiday! July 2020.
"What an amazing place!"
What an amazing place! The house is simply stunning with beautiful views overlooking the loch at the front. It was a privilege to see both golden and white tailed eagles fly by. Only a short stroll to Bosta beach with white sands and turquoise waters yet surrounded by centuries of history hidden beneath the sands.
We would highly recommend Loch View and cannot thank Sally & Richard enough for their attention to detail, the welcome pack and their care to ensure we had a perfect break. Thank you for a truly wonderful week on the Isle of Lewis. September 2020.
"Living the dream at Loch View"
Loch View is the kind of house you drive by and say ooh, I wish I lived there. Well we lived the dream, even if it was just for a week!
Fantastic house and by far the best equipped we’ve ever rented. Beautiful location over looking the loch with Bosta beach only a 10/15 minute walk away. The welcome pack was a real treat with home made cake, Cava and lots of other goodies. Sally the owner was very helpful and very quick to respond to my questions. Golden Eagles flying over the house every day were the icing on the cake. September 2019.
"Would I go back? In a heart beat!!!"
What a marvellous treat awaits you at Loch View
If you're looking to escape the rigours of day to day life, enjoy some stunning walks, beautiful unspoilt beaches and gaze in wonderment at the natural scenery that envelopes this little gem then look no further...….
Loch View is a perfectly appointed home, spotlessy clean with attention to detail that is second to none. The kitchen had every little gaget and plenty of picnic Tupperware, a drawer full of local maps and basic supplies ready for for your arrival. The linen and towels were beautifully white and of good quality and the beds extremely comfortable. Little touches of local art, Harris Tweed throws and cushions and locally sourced handwash thoughtfully presented and nice touches and all appreciated.
Would I go back? In a heart beat!!! May 2018.
"Stunning Loch side house in a tranquil location"
If you are looking for a beautiful house, on an amazing island with peace and quiet around you, then this is the house for you. The photos on the website are great, and make you excited for going, but they aren’t as good as the real thing. Driving up to the house was stunning a it is in a really beautiful Loch side location.
The house itself has literally everything you could think of that you may need, and much more. Really nice touch to have good binoculars as there is definitely plenty to see! Overall we had an amazing week just relaxing in a lovely house. Also, the communication with the owner was the best I’ve ever had with any questions answered very quickly. October 2019.
"Absolutely Exquisite"
This place is absolutely exquisite – by far the loveliest place we have ever stayed in – it lived up to and surpassed expectations. What a triumph of a re-creation. From the moment we saw the pictures it sang light, space and beauty in perfect harmony with the surroundings. Lovely open plan living space.
We loved the attention to detail inside, the simplicity of the colour palette and the solidity of the materials, the Harris tweed touches, the lighting and every window perfectly framing the stunning natural world around. Under floor heating was great – and seemed to dry out all our gear in the porch area really well. The kitchen was amazingly well-equipped. Brilliant storage everywhere. It was so incredible to have the water in the loch outside reflecting and magnifying the surroundings and it was great for kayaking.
The children loved it and relaxed in a way that we don’t always see them doing at home. Jaw-dropping daily viewings from the lounge and bedrooms of golden eagles nesting just behind the house. Lovely cycle rides down to the stunning Bosta beach and walking round the headland to the boulders, as well as over to the Bernera high point where the views were magnificent. Trips down the coast took us to more breathtaking beaches and a lovely walk up the hills at Mealasta with far-reaching views across little islets and to the snowy peaks of Harris. And the weather was kind to us the whole time - just half a day of rain in first week of April. Thanks for a magnificently memorable week. April 2018.
"An island, off an island, off an island"
We spent a week at Loch View and, as a family, we all loved it. The house is beautiful and perfectly appointed - having two boys, aged 10 and 12, the only anxiety was boys being boys which made us slightly nervous. Thankfully the boys were fine and our anxiety was alleviated!
The specifications of the house are exceptional - from the underfloor heating, (welcome in October!), to the appliances, maps, guides, instructions and the views. Total comfort complete with a wonderful feel and ambience! The setting superb - only 1/4 mile from Bosta beach and only a short drive to the jaw-dropping Calanish.
We loved our stay......................the only 'downside': there is so so so so so so much to see and do, explore and visit - oh well, we'll just have to return! October 2018.
"Sanctuary in Paradise"
Located on the west of Lewis, Loch View is as peaceful and secluded a holiday as you could wish for. A sanctuary away from the busy lives we lead. Isolated in its location Loch View offers every facility you could wish for, we wanted for nothing. The large fridge and freezer were a welcome sight as we could store a week’s food shop without a single trip to find a shop. Bosta beach is close by, beautiful white sand and clear blue sea. Harris beaches offer a surfer’s paradise, endless sweeping beaches and a contrast to the terrain of Lewis.
Our 10 and 12 year- old missed their computer and endless Wi-Fi access but did succumb quickly to island life, fishing, swimming, crabbing and were entranced by the Golden Eagles nesting in the cliffs, the highlight for them was watching the new born eagle take his first flight off the cliff! Highly recommend and can't wait to return. August 2018.
"The only thing I would do differently is book more than one week! Fabulous!"
We have stayed in a lot of self-catering cottages over the last 28 years of visiting Scotland (four times on Lewis!) and I have to say that Loch View is one of the finest we have ever encountered! Sally and Richard have provided absolutely everything needed for the ultimate stay in their beautifully decorated house on Great Bernera. It was a pleasure to arrive from the states and have an organized, comprehensive guide to the workings of all the UK appliances, locks, etc.
The house was immaculate, quiet, and spacious with an extrordinary view out on to the rocky hills. The walk to nearby Bosta Beach was energizing and the weather so warm and sunny we could swim in the gorgeous turquoise water. Sally was incredibly helpful and always available via email for any questions. We made daily visits to all parts of Lewis and Harris including the the extensive beach at Uig, standing stones, brochs, the Heb Celt festival, Lews Castle, shopping in Stornaway, hiking the land, and of course sampling the new distillery at Tarbert, Harris.
The only thing I would do differently is book more than one week! Fabulous! August 2017.
"Modern luxury against ancient beauty"
We stayed at Loch View as a family during the Easter holidays and enjoyed a truly wonderful holiday. The house is situated in a remote part of Lewis and offers a peace and tranquility that you won't find in many other places, the silence only broken by the sounds of nature. Loch View is not your average British holiday home. It is carefully designed to offer light, space, warmth and comfort, and is set sensitively in the rugged Lewis landscape.
When we first entered the house we wouldn't have been surprised if Kevin McCloud had popped his head around the corner and offered to show us around this 'grand design', with its double height seating area and huge windows overlooking the loch, perfect for watching the sun set with a glass of wine in the evenings. The owners have thought very carefully about the comfort of their guests and provide one of the best equipped kitchens I have ever used, a real home from home. The beds were very comfortable and we slept soundly every night. The locally produced extras - the hand soap and tweed accessories, also made Loch View that little bit more special.
The Hebrides is known for its changeable weather, and on the two rainy days we had it was lovely to spend quality time together with no hint of cabin fever setting in. The owner, Sally, couldn't have been more helpful from the first enquiry until the end of our stay, and offered us helpful tips on making the most of the area she knows and loves so deeply. We highly recommend Loch View! April 2016.
"I didn't want to leave"
We throughly enjoyed our stay. The house is stunning. Fabulously designed, great kitchen space with everything you could possibly need, all the bedrooms are a good size, beds are very comfortable. The view is beautiful and a joy to watch as the weather changes. A very peaceful location. I didn't want to leave. Sally was very responsive to any messages prior to our trip and even telephoned the house to make sure all was ok for us during our stay. I would highly recommend this beautiful home and if I come to the island again I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else. April 2016.
“Breathtakingly Wonderful”
This is a unique escape from the rest of the world in a luxurious, immaculately designed house with every creature comfort you might want slap-bang in the middle of one of the most remote and wild places in Britain. We spent 9 incredible days at Loch View and totally switched off from work, problems and other pedestrian concerns. Our city kids were happy as clams in the house and the wilds and my son had his first fishing lesson opposite the house. Before coming we fretted constantly about the weather but in the end even when the sun wasn't shining it was a pleasure to be inside. If you want a real escape from suburban concrete, pebble-dash Britain come here! April 2015.
“Fabulous accommodation in amazing setting”
If you are after a luxury wilderness experience this is the place to book. Wonderfully isolated but great base to explore both Lewis and Harris. Short walk to the beautiful Bosta beach or up onto the moors for a great view of the surrounding coastal areas. The house has everything you could ever want and is a great place to just sit and watch the world pass by or come home to after a day sight seeing. June 2015.
“A magnificent house in a remote Hebridean location.”
Loch View is a fabulous house on a remote Hebridean island. Every detail in the property has been considered and we had a perfect stay. If you are after peace the house and surrounding area are where you can find it. The owners were extremely helpful during the booking process and throughout the stay. This was a very special place. September 2015.
